The Father With a Board on the Roadside

Every morning, Devid Patel's father leaves his rented home and stands on the side of a road in Hurisha holding a handwritten board.

It says: my child needs a bone marrow transplant.

He is not a beggar. He is a factory worker who has calculated, very precisely, that there is no other way. He has done the math on his salary, on the treatment cost, on every relative and every option. And then he picked up a board and walked to the roadside because his son is running out of time.

That son is Devid. He is six years old.

What Wiskott Aldrich Syndrome Does

Devid was born with Wiskott Aldrich Syndrome, a rare and life-threatening genetic disorder that cripples the immune system. His body cannot fight infections the way it should. It cannot clot blood properly. And over time, without treatment, the risk of fatal infection, bleeding, and immune system failure grows with every passing month.

There is no medicine that manages this long term. There is no diet, no therapy, no workaround. The only treatment that offers a real cure is a bone marrow transplant.

And Devid is not the only one in his family who needs it.

Two Brothers. Same Disease. Same Urgency.

Devid has a younger brother.

The younger brother has been diagnosed with the same condition. Same syndrome. Same prognosis. Same only option. Two children in one household, both carrying a disease that will take their lives if treatment does not come in time.

Their father knows this. Their mother knows this. They wake up every morning knowing that both their sons are living on borrowed time, and that the clock does not pause while they figure out how to raise Rs. 35,00,000 for one child, let alone two.

The risk, as the doctors put it, is very high. That is not a phrase doctors use lightly.

The Family Behind the Board

Devid's father works in a factory. His mother is a housewife. They live in a rented house. There are no assets to liquidate, no savings to draw from, no family network wealthy enough to bridge this gap.

What his father does have is the willingness to stand on a public road and ask strangers for help. To hold up a board and wait. To swallow whatever pride remains when your children's lives are on the line and your salary is not enough and you have already tried everything else.

That is not a weakness. That is a father doing the only thing left.

What Treatment Requires

The doctors at the hospital in Raipur have laid out the path clearly. Devid needs an Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant, a complex procedure involving chemotherapy conditioning, stem cell procurement, infusion, and months of careful monitoring and supportive care.

The total cost of Devid's treatment alone is Rs. 35,00,000. His younger brother's treatment will require a separate fundraise entirely.

Six Years Old

Devid is six years old. He has a younger brother who looks up to him. He has a father who stands on a roadside every morning because he refuses to give up. He has a mother at home managing everything with nothing.

He does not know what Wiskott Aldrich Syndrome means. He only knows that he is unwell, that his parents are worried, and that every hospital visit is another day away from whatever normal used to feel like.

A bone marrow transplant can give him his life back. The doctors have confirmed it. The path exists. The hospital is ready.

The only thing standing between Devid and that future is Rs. 35,00,000.

Please donate. Please share. A father is already doing the hardest thing he has ever done. Help make sure it is enough.
