Our Mission, Their Hope

At Mitaan, we bridge the gap between urgent medical needs and the power of community support—one life at a time

Who WE Are

Jeevandayini

The Story of Mitaan Foundation.

"Where there was no hope, we built a path."

In 2012, in a small village in Chhattisgarh, schoolteacher Mohammad Ishak Khan witnessed a neighbor suffering due to lack of timely medical care. Despite the presence of welfare schemes, poor awareness and limited access left the family helpless. That moment sparked a realization: healthcare should not be a privilege—it should be a right. This was the beginning of Mitaan Foundation — a grassroots initiative built on compassion, equity, and action.

From a Personal Effort to a Public Mission

Initially focused on patients suffering from burn contracture and other neglected conditions, Ishak Khan offered alternative treatment options and local support. But the issue was much bigger than one illness or one village.
In 2021, the mission evolved when social activist Mrinal Mahajan joined the effort. With a strong background in working with underserved communities, the foundation gained structure, scale, and expanded its reach across Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal.

The Heart of the Movement — Mitaan Squad

At the core of Mitaan Foundation is its people. A dedicated team of 15 core members and over 150 active ground volunteers form the Mitaan Squad.
This includes:
Mitaan Yuva Morcha – Young, dynamic ground volunteers who coordinate patient support, organize rural medical camps, assist in hospital admission, and provide field-based follow-up. Team Mitaan – A committed operations and digital support team that manages awareness campaigns, patient data registration, documentation, communications, and community outreach online.
Their combined efforts ensure that each patient receives consistent care — from diagnosis to recovery. Contributors like Shanti Bai, Sunny Sheikh, and Raju M. continue to be instrumental in mobilizing resources and enabling field execution.

Jeevandayini Yojna – A Napkin, A New Chapter

The Jeevandayini Initiative addresses menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls in rural and tribal areas. For every follow or engagement on our social media platforms, one sanitary napkin is donated to a girl in a government school.
This simple act enables hundreds of girls to stay in school, attend classes confidently, and break generational barriers linked to education and poverty.

Treatment with Dignity – Beyond Hospitals

At Mitaan Foundation, we believe healthcare is not just about reaching hospitals — it’s about complete support. We assist patients who either cannot access government schemes or whose conditions are not covered. Our support includes:
Hospital coordination and specialist treatment access
Travel and accommodation assistance
Free medicines and food
Pre-surgery preparation and post-surgery follow-up
Fundraising via www.mitaan.org when financial aid is unavailable through official channels
We help people not just survive, but live with dignity and self-dependence.

Monthly Free Medical Camps

Every month, the Foundation organizes one free medical camp in each of the four states it operates in. These camps serve 700–1000 patients per location and offer: General and specialized checkups (eye, skin, bones, gynecology, etc.)

Free medicines and consultations
On-the-spot awareness and health counseling
Certificate and document support for welfare inclusion
The camps are conducted in the most remote tribal belts, forest villages, and urban slums — areas where even a basic doctor’s visit can be a luxury.

Bridging the Awareness Gap

Many people in remote areas are unaware of available support systems. Our team conducts awareness drives, village meetings, health talks, and door-to-door campaigns to educate people on how they can avail benefits, access care, and improve their long-term well-being. When Government Schemes Aren't Enough
While our team helps people access healthcare through available government welfare schemes, many patients are either excluded or denied due to technical or categorical limitations.
In such cases, we launch online fundraising campaigns through www.mitaan.org, allowing the public to directly support those in need. This not only ensures treatment but gives the person a second chance at self-reliance.

Transparency & Trust

We uphold transparency as a core value. Every donor and supporter receives:
Full details of the patient's condition and story
Photos, videos, and treatment reports
Updates on fund usage and recovery progress
We believe that compassion backed with accountability leads to lasting impact.

More Than a Foundation — A Movement

Mitaan Foundation is more than an organization; it is a people-powered movement. We represent those whose voices have long been unheard. We bridge the gap between pain and healing, despair and dignity, and the impossible and the achievable. If you believe in transforming lives, Mitaan is your platform.

Our Director Message

MD. ISHAK KHAN

Why do people in rural areas still suffer when help exists, but doesn’t reach them? I witnessed firsthand how lack of access, awareness, and trust in the system can cost someone their life. That moment became the turning point. Mitaan was born out of empathy — not just to provide healthcare, but to ensure it reaches the last person in the line, with dignity. Today, when we support thousands every month, it’s not just my vision — it is a collective mission driven by every volunteer who believes that compassion backed by action can move mountains. Our aim is not just treatment, but transformation — from helplessness to hope, from survival to self-reliance. That is the spirit of Mitaan.

MRINAL MAHAJAN

Working with marginalized communities across different states, I’ve seen how healthcare is not just about medicine — it’s about dignity, opportunity, and hope. At Mitaan, we don’t just treat patients — we stand with people when they feel unseen, unheard, and unsupported. Whether it’s a young girl missing school due to lack of hygiene, or a father unable to afford surgery, our mission is clear — every life deserves a second chance. I firmly believe change doesn’t start with big policies, it begins with people — committed, compassionate, and courageous. Mitaan is that collective strength. And if you believe in change, Mitaan is not just an organization — it’s your extended family.
