Seventeen-year-old Chotan Ram should have been worrying about exams, playing with friends, or dreaming about his future. Instead, his life changed forever one night in his small village near Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh.Like many villages in India, his home had no electricity that evening. To light the room, Chotan used a diya. In a tragic twist of fate, the small flame turned into a nightmare. The fire caught onto his clothes and, before anyone could save him, it spread across his face, ear, lip, arm, elbow, wrist, and fingers.
In that one moment, childhood joy was replaced with pain, and every dream he had seemed to burn away with the fire.
Chotan’s burns are not just scars on his body, they are barriers to living a normal life. His right hand and arm, which he once used to write, eat, and help with household chores, are now painfully restricted. Simple actions like holding a pen or lifting food to his mouth are almost impossible. But the physical pain is only part of the story. Imagine being a teenager who avoids mirrors because the reflection is too difficult to face. Imagine wanting to go to school but fearing the stares, whispers, and pity of classmates. Imagine having dreams but feeling them slip away, one by one, because of something beyond your control.
This is Chotan’s reality.
Chotan’s mother passed away when he was very young. Since then, his father has carried the burden of raising him and his sister alone. But his father is frail and unwell, barely able to work. With no steady income and no savings, every day is a struggle just to put food on the table. Now, faced with a hospital bill of nearly ₹9.4 lakhs, this family is completely helpless. For them, arranging even a few thousand rupees is hard — lakhs are beyond imagination. No parent should ever have to choose between their child’s life and their poverty. Yet that is exactly the cruel choice Chotan’s father is staring at today.
Doctors have given hope that with multi-stage surgeries, ICU care, skin grafting, and rehabilitation, Chotan can recover.
The treatment plan requires 25–30 days of hospitalization, including:
It’s a steep amount, but it’s the only path for Chotan to regain use of his hand, heal his scars, and prevent future infections. Without it, his burns will remain a lifelong disability stealing his chance at education, work, and dignity.
This isn’t just about a hospital bill.
It’s about a 17-year-old boy’s right to dream again.
With your support, Chotan can:

Behind the burns is still a boy who loves, dreams, and hopes. A boy who wants to study, smile, and live without fear.

Together, we can make sure one tragic night doesn’t define the rest of his life.
